Having dabbled in various

theater disciplines, Matt fell in

love with scenic design while still

an undergraduate at Plymouth

State University. Scenic design

offers a wonderful blend of

pictorial and sculptural elements

as well as endless possibilities of

textures and materials. Matt went

on to graduate studies at the

University of Georgia and

received his M.F.A. in Scenic and

Lighting design 2007.

     Matt’s professional career

began in earnest when he joined

the staff of the Lyric Stage

Company in the Fall of 2007 as

production manager. Over the

next 10 years Matt had the

privilege to work with and design

for some of the best theater

artists in New England including

Spiro Veloudos, Courtney

O’Connor, Dawn Meredith

Simmons, Rachel Bertone,

Benny Sato-Ambush and

Larry Cohen to name only a few.

In 2020 Matt was nominated for

an Elliot Norton Award alongside

his fellow designers for the Lyric’s

production of The Cake.

     In 2017 Matt’s career moved

westward when he joined the

faculty at HolyokeCommunity

College where he is currently

Associate Professor of Theater.

Matt is a passionate believer

that theater and the performing

arts should be available to

community college students as

a field of study.

When not in the theater or

the classroom, Matt is an avid

hand-tool woodworker and

plein-air painter. He enjoys hiking,

backpacking, biking and canoeing.

Matt lives inPittsfield,

Massachusetts with his wife,

Abigail Rollins.
